The Most Photographed Sunset in Key Largo — and How to Catch It

Where to sit, when to arrive and how to make sure the sky delivers.

Fiery sunset over Florida Bay seen from the deck at Bayside Grille in Key Largo

Key Largo has a geographic secret that makes all the difference at golden hour: the island runs northeast to southwest, with the Atlantic on one side and Florida Bay on the other. Bayside Grille sits on the bay side, facing due west across open water — which is exactly why our sunsets have earned a reputation as the most photographed in Key Largo.

Arrive before the color starts

The mistake most first-timers make is showing up at sundown. The real show begins about 30 minutes before the sun touches the horizon, when the light turns gold and the water goes glassy, and it keeps going through the afterglow well after the sun is gone. Plan to be seated at least 45 minutes ahead — earlier on weekends and holidays.

Best seats in the house

  • Upstairs, all-glass panorama. Our elevated dining room wraps you in unobstructed western views — perfect for dinner as the sky changes.
  • Downstairs at the Sunset Bar. Toes-in-the-sand vibe, live music and a cocktail in hand as the sun drops over the bay.
  • The dock and sandy beach. For the widest horizon and the clearest shot for your camera.

Time it with Champagne Sunsets

From 4 to 6pm daily we pour half-price Champagne Sunsets, so you can toast the light as it turns. Pair a glass of bubbles with a starter, settle in, and let the sky do the rest.

Because the best sunset tables fill first, a reservation is the surest way to land your spot on the water. Tell us it's for sunset and we'll seat you where the view is widest.
