FAMILY-OWNED SINCE 1992

Our Story

A multi-generational Florida Keys tradition — from an old-family Italian kitchen to a waterfront table on Florida Bay, told one sunset at a time.

Bayside Grille & Sunset Bar is the waterfront home of the DiGiorgio family — the same family that has been feeding Key Largo since 1992. Ours is a story of two immigrant families, four generations, and a simple idea: bring the best of the old family recipes to the finest ingredients the Florida Keys have to offer, and serve them where the whole sky turns gold over Florida Bay.

Two families, one table

The DiGiorgios & the Maianis

Our roots run back centuries in Italy. The DiGiorgio family hails from Cassino, just outside Rome, and the Maiani family from the Republic of San Marino. Both immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900s, and by the 1960s had put down roots in South Florida.

In 1965, Pasquale "Pat" DiGiorgio married JoAnn Maiani — joining the two families for good. Together they raised two children, Robert and Gina, on a love of good food, family and hospitality that still defines every plate we send out.

From Cafe Largo to the bay

A Keys tradition since 1992

It began with DiGiorgio's Cafe Largo — Italian & Seafood, which opened in Key Largo in 1992 and quickly built a reputation for fine Italian food with a Keys twist: Certified Angus Beef, Wagyu, fresh local seafood, and imported and fresh-made pasta. Cafe Largo earned a spot on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

Bayside Grille & Sunset Bar is the family's waterfront chapter — an expansion into elevated sunset dining, a live-music sunset bar, and inventive Keyribbean fusion cuisine, right on Florida Bay.

Four generations, still hands-on

The next generation

Today, chef-owner Robert DiGiorgio — with his wife Angel — carries the kitchen as the 3rd generation of the family. And father Pat hasn't gone anywhere: he still actively oversees the restaurants, just as he always has.

Robert and Angel's daughters, Bella and Mia, are in college and preparing to continue the family tradition — the fourth generation of a family that has never stopped showing up for its guests.
